Client Spotlight: Niagara Takes Centre Stage

The dream of a new performing arts centre in St. Catharines is well on its way to becoming a reality. There have been a number of exciting developments…

A little background for those who may not know…

In 2015 St. Catharines will open the doors to its state-of-the-art academic and cultural complex, located in the heart of downtown. The facility will be comprised of four stunning performance venues, designed to a host range of performances and productions for audiences large and medium-sized. The space includes a 775-seat venue, Partridge Hall, a 300-seat Recital Hall, a 210-seat Theatre/Dance venue, and a 185-seat Film Theatre. In my opinion, one of the coolest aspects of this new performing arts centre is that two of the four venues (the Recital Hall and Film Theatre) will double as learning environments for Brock University students.

April 2013 marked an exciting milestone for the project – a major announcement was made that moved the project forward in a significant way: Cabinet Chairman Peter Partridge and his family gave an incredibly generous gift of $1 million. This announcement was made at a special event that Interkom helped planned (The Tenors performed) and The Globe and Mail did a piece on Mr. Partridge post-event.

The momentum generated from the April has been maintained since and is only accelerating as we move closer to construction. Speaking of which, just last week a construction company was selected by the City of St. Catharines to build the complex. Bird Construction, the same folks who constructed another one of our client’s stunning buildings, Burlington Performing Arts Centre, will bring the new performing arts centre to life!

To be part of a project set to transform St. Catharines and redefine Niagara Region’s already stellar cultural cluster is incredibly exciting for all of us here at Interkom. We have thoroughly enjoyed the new experiences and relationships this project has afforded us and are so looking forward to the day we can stand inside this gorgeous facility.
